In celebration of their Silver Jubilee the Association of Essex Philatelic Societies ran a genuine Mail Coach along the old route from Brentwood to Chelmsford.

The coach departed from the White Hart in Brentwood High street at 1000 hours on 7th June 1969. Mail was taken to Ingatestone for Postmarking . At The Bell Inn the horses were fed and watered and refreshments were provided.

Mail was then also carried between Ingatestone and Chelmsford where  on arrival a postmark was applied

Two special event handsatmps were used, one for Inglestone and the other for Chelmsford.

A serviced illustrated cover with one of the postmarks together with the ‘By Mail Coach’ cachet cost 2s 6d each or the pair for 4s 6d
