Queen’s Own Highlanders 60th Anniversary of Formation

In 1961 the Seaforth Highlanders and the Queen’s Own Cameron Highlanders amalgamated at Redford Barracks, Edinburgh, to form the Queen’s Own Highlanders. There followed another merger in 1994, this time with the Gordon Highlanders, to become ‘The Highlanders’. Twelve years later they become part of the Royal Regiment of Scotland, which now upholds many of the fine traditions and customs of the Queen’s OwnHighlanders.

Today the Regiment still lives on through its veterans, the various branches of the Queen’s Own Highlanders Regimental Association and the excellent Regimental Museum at Fort George, near Inverness.

In conjunction with the Regimental Association, BFPS has produced a commemorative cover marking the 60th anniversary of the formation of the Queen’s Own Highlanders and this will be released on the 7th February 2021.

The cover bears an image from a painting by Douglas N Anderson, well known for his depictions of Scottish Highland Regiments. A 1st Class Scottish regional stamp (Scottish Lion) will be cancelled by the unique numbered BFPS 3234 special handstamp specially produced for the event.

There will be three versions of the cover as follows:

  • Standard unsigned priced at £7.50.
  • Limited edition of 79 signed by 2 veterans of the amalgamation priced at £15.
  • Limited edition of 60 signed by Douglas N Anderson, the artist who painted the
image used on the cover, priced at £15.

All covers will come with an information insert and both will be presented in a cellophane slip making a superb memento of this anniversary.

The covers and stamp sheets can be ordered from the BFPS online shop (www.bfps.org.uk) or by post by sending a cheque (payable to ‘BFPS CIC’) to BFPS, The Old Post Office, Links Place, Elie, LEVEN, KY9 1AX.
