YET TO BE RELEASED

This year The Royal Marines celebrate their 350ᵗʰAnniversary. Formed in the reign of King Charles II on 28 October 1664 as the Duke of York and Albany’s Maritime Regiment of Foot (or Admiral’s Regiment), the name Marines first appeared in the records in 1672. In 1802 they were granted the title Royal Marines by King George III.

The British Forces Philatelic Bureau has produced a special commemorative cover to celebrate this important anniversary on 28 October 2014. Using images depicting early and modern day Marines the cover also includes the official Royal Marines 350 logo along with the crest of the Royal Marine Commandos. The stamp on the cover is one from the ‘Prime Ministers’special stamp issue, which are to be released on 14 October.  This will be cancelled using a unique BFPS numbered handstamp depicting the official ‘Commando Dagger 350’logo. The cover comes complete with an A4 double-sided insert in full colour telling the story of the Royal Marines. The cover and insert are presented in a cellophane sleeve to create a high quality souvenir of a truly historic event.

The souvenir covers may be purchased from the BFPS online shop (www.bfps.org.uk/shop) and cost £6 (including UK/BFPO p&p). They are available to order now on a strictly first-come-first-served basis. The covers are also available by post by sending a cheque (payable to ‘BFPS CIC’) to BFPS The Old Post Office Links Place Elie Fife KY9 1AX. BFPS is officially licensed by the MOD.
