Description
75th Anniversary of the Corps of Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (REME)
A modern, high-tech Army needs highly trained men and women to keep equipment working. The role of the REME is to do just that; maintain, repair and manufacture equipment to keep battle winning aircraft, tanks and weapons in fighting order. The REME exists to ‘keep the punch in the Army’s fist’.
In 1941 the War Cabinet directed Sir William Beveridge to carry out an enquiry into the employment of technical manpower in the Services. As a result of the recommendations of this enquiry, the Royal Corp of Electrical and Mechanical Engineers was formed on 1st October 1942.
In conjunction with HQ REME, the British Forces Philatelic Service has produced a commemorative cover to mark their 75ᵗʰ Anniversary on the 1st October 2017.
This very striking cover bears an image, taken from a painting by the renowned war artist Matthew Cook, depicting a REME recovery vehicle towing a Warrior Armoured Personnel Carrier. A personalised smiler stamp showing an engine pack being removed from equipment will be cancelled by the unique British Forces Postal Service special handstamp No 3207. The cover comes complete with an A4 double-sided information insert in full colour. Both are presented in a cellophane sleeve to create a high quality souvenir of this historic event.
The standard unsigned covers will cost £7.50 each (UK/BFPO p&p free) whilst signed covers will cost £12 each(UK/BFPO p&p free).
These superb commemorative covers will be displayed in the BFPS online shop on the 17ᵗʰ September 2017.
They will be available on a strictly first-come-first-served basis. Ordered covers will be despatched on or soon after the 1ˢᵗ October 2017.
You can also order these covers via mail order by sending a cheque made out to BFPS CIC and sending it to BFPS, The Old Post Office, Links Place, Elie, Fife, KY9 1AX.
