There was a special post box  at Fortress Squadron RE BFPO 52 where items posted would receive the special handstamp.

Items for re-posting needed to be sent to the Philatelic Officer at BFPO 52

An illustrated cover was produced  which depicts a Royal Engineer of 1772 in full ceremonial uniform with the rock of Gibraltar in the background.

The cost of the cover serviced  was 40p

A limited number of 500 covers were signed by General Sir Charles P Jones GCB CBE MC the Chief Royal Engineer and these cost £1 each

Orders for illustrated covers needed to be sent to The Philatelic Officer Corps of Royal Engineers Royal School of Military Engineering Chatham Kent.
