Description

On the 28th June 1920 a Royal Warrant was signed by the Secretary of State for War, the Right Honourable Winston S Churchill, giving the sovereign’s approval for the formation of a ‘Corps of Signals’. Six weeks later, on the 5th August 1920 His Majesty the King conferred the title ‘Royal Corps of Signals’. A new Corps was born within the British Army.

This year marks the Centenary of the Corps and to celebrate this the BFPS, in conjunction with the Headquarters Royal Signals, has produced a commemorative cover to be published on the 28th June 2020.

This splendid cover bears an image group of the centenary logo flanked on either side by the first and current Corps cap badge. Underneath the main image sits the message “congratulations” in Morse code along with the Corps colours. A bespoke Royal Mail SmilerR stamp, showing the Corps Centenary Tactical Recognition Flash, will be cancelled by the BFPS uniquely numbered 3228 special handstamp with the Corps cap badge at its centre.

Versions of the cover will include:

  • standard unsigned version (£9 each).
  • numbered limited edition of 50 signed by Lt Gen Sir Nicholas Pope KCB CBE, Master of Signals (£18 each).
  • numbered limited edition of 50 (£18 each) signed by Col J Gunning ADC, CorpsColonel (£18 each).

All covers include an A4 double-sided information insert and will be presented in a protective cellophane sleeve making a very collectable souvenir of the centenary

A very limited quantity of the bespoke Smiler® stamps used on these covers will be available to order in full sheets (of 20) and half sheets (of 10).

The covers and stamps will not be despatched to our customers until the 29th June 2020.
