Description

To celebrate the Centenary Celebrations organised by Midland Railway London Extension Association three special handstamps were used.

A Special Exhibition train  visited the following towns  on the below dates for which each had a special Handstamp.

4-6 th October St Albans Herts,  11-13th October Luton Beds & 14-20th October Bedford.

The cover has the Midland Wyvern Crest of the association and an illustration of a Kirtley 800 Locomotive printed in Midland Red.

Each postmark depicted a locomotive used on this particular line St Albans – Johnson single wheeler, Luton- Midland Compound & Bedford- Jubilee Locomotive.

Covers could be posted on the train to obtain the relevant special handstamp or serviced  covers could be ordered from the association.

An unserviced cover cost 1s 6d whilst serviced covers cost 2s 6d

All profits from the sale of the covers went to the Railway Servants Orphanage Derby.
