The exhibition was the first philatelic exhibition jointly sponsored by France and Great Britain.

It was held at the National Postal Museum and was opened by the French Ambassador, His Excellency M Jacques de Beaumarchais on 25th July.

The Exhibition ran from July to the end of October.

The special handstamp motif of Britannia and Marianne was based on artwork by French born Edmund Dulac who had designed a number of British stamps
