D-Day 75 years on – Remembered by the Normandy Memorial Trust
It has been the dream for many years of the Patron of the Normandy Memorial Trust, George Batts MBE, that a Memorial be built in Normandy to record the names of all the British servicemen and women and those from the civilian services who lost their lives in the D-Day landings and the Normandy Campaign (www.normandymemorialtrust.org).
This dream has now been realised with the initial works to create the memorial being started at Ver sur Mer in France, overlooking “Gold Beach”. The British Prime Minister, French President Emmanuel Macron and Veterans will take part in a ceremony to mark the formal beginning of the construction of the Monument at the site on 6th June 2019, the 75th Anniversary of D-Day.
To mark both of these occasions, BFPS has produced a commemorative cover to be issued on the 6th June 2019. Profits from the sale of these covers will be donated towards the cost of the memorial.
The image on the cover shows both the proposed Memorial wall and its statues. A 1st class stamp from the Royal Mail D-Day special issue will be cancelled by the unique BFPS 1000 special handstamp.
Besides the standard unsigned version, it is proposed that there will be a numbered limited edition of 75 covers (marking the 75th Anniversary of D-Day) signed by a prominent member of the Normandy Memorial Trust.
These covers will have a 1/3 A4 information insert and both will be presented in a protective cellophane slip.
Costing £7.50 and £15 respectively for the standard and signed versions these covers can be ordered from the BFPS online shop (www.bfps.org.uk) or by post by sending a cheque payable to BFPS CIC to BFPS, The Old Post Office, Links Place, Elie, LEVEN, KY9 1AX.
