On 25th January 1959 , the bicentenary of Robert Burns birth, the post office at Alloway was open from 0900 hrs until 1300 hrs for acceptance of ordinary and registered letters. Together with collections from street posting boxes ( up to 1700 hrs) and items sent for special cancellation, were date stamped ‘ Alloway Ayr
