The congress took place from 3rd-6th June and was hosted by the Leicester Philatelic Society who were also celebrating their 70th Anniversary.

The official opening of the Congress by the Lord Mayor of Leicester and the evening Civic reception was held at the city’s New Walk Museum.

The Grand Hotel in the centre of Leicester was the congress base where all business sessions took place and the closing banquet was held.

Illustrated covers were produced for each day 1) Congress Day depicting Old John Tower, 2) Leicestershire Day depicting a fox hunting scene, 3) Industry Day depicting an early power knitting machine 4) Leicester PS 70th Anniversary Day depicting the Arms of Leicester.

There were two illustrated handstamps that were used alternatively, Victorian Clock Tower (1868) in Leicester City Centre and Butter Market (1780) Mountsorrel

The covers and handstamps were designed by Mr G H Wright the Life President of the Leicester Philatelic Society.

A set of four covers fully serviced was 60p or the set unserviced 30p.
