The championships at Thornaby Pavilion New Town Centre Thornaby Stockton on Tees Teeside ran from 4th -9th August during which time this special handstamp was available on each day.
An illustrated cover was produced franked with a 5d Commonwealth Games stamp and fully serviced cost 1s 6d.
A special post box was at the Pavilion where items posted would receive the special handstamp dated on that particular day.
EUROPEAN YOUTH CHAMPIONSHIPS played, for the first time in England, at Thornaby Pavilion, Teesside (August 4-9/1970) the following countries have signified their intention of sending teams: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Czechoslovakia, Denmark, Federal Germany, France, Greece, Holland, Hungary, Luxembourg, Poland, Rumania, Russia, Scotland, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey and Yugoslavia. Top seeds in the Boys’ singles event are likely to be Tibor Klampar (Hungary) and Stellan Bengtsson (Sweden) and both, despite their tender years, are world-class players, as witness their performances in Moscow and in the European League.
